To celebrate 'Cookie Day' today, we thought we'd share thoughts about 'Christmas Baking' - A wellbeing activity to do with family, friends or for some alone time. Baking can be soul-filling rather than stressful this year. Here are some ways to romanticise Christmas baking:

1. Light a Christmas candle before you begin
2. Curate a playlist of Christmas songs you actually enjoy or watch your favourite comfort show/ Christmas movie while you bake
3. Get your kids super excited to bake before you do it with them, see what makes them excited scrolling through pretty pictures on Pinterest, buy them cookie cutters of their favourite characters, or use their favourite foods in the recipe
4. Ensure the kitchen is tidy and any urgent items on your to-do list have been ticked off before you begin so your brain can focus on the gentle, mindful practice of baking
5. Also essential to the recipe to enjoy baking this holiday season is making sure you bake items in good time. Remember freezing baked goods can be really useful. If you know family members are coming over later on this month, bake at a time when you are less busy so when they come over you are not in a rush!

3. Cold showers or even going for a cold water swim! - cold water showers or swimming increases circulation, improves mental resilience, reduces stress and increases our ability to manage stress, and then YES, it boosts the immune system!!
4. Vitamin D - With the natural reduction in sun exposure, it's important to eat more foods with Vitamin D in!
5. Touch therapies - Through the relaxation these therapies can provide, stress is reduced, and when we are less stressed our body can function with more strength and vitality.

5 Tips to get out to classes when it is dark 🧘‍♀️🌙

Do you find it hard to get out to yoga (or other wellbeing) classes when it's dark in the evenings? For many of us evening sessions are convenient due to work and childcare. Yet when it's dark, cold and wet we may want to stay at home. The pull of the sofa, being cosy, it's just harder to motivate ourselves. Even though we know we enjoy it and we know it's good for us. Here are some tips to help you get to that evening class...

1. Focus on the benefits
Notice how you feel after a class. Do you feel lighter, calmer, more supple or energised? Chances are you feel better! One of my students said, "I feel like I've had a massage" after their first class. Remember that feeling to get you there again.

There are so many wide ranging benefits of practising yoga which might motivate us each differently. Particularly in the winter months we might benefit from keeping active, keeping the circulation healthy, help with our digestion and boosting the mood. Practice with a group of others builds our sense of community and feelgood, by connecting with each other. Practising face to face with a teacher means we can get direct feedback on alignment and ask questions without the barrier of a screen.

2. Pay in advance
If you have prebooked your yoga lesson then you are more motivated to attend, because it's already paid for! There's no excuse of funds running low that week. Some teachers will even offer a discount for paying in advance (I offer a reduced rate for students prepaying a block of classes).

3. Mark it on your calendar, diary or set an alarm!
Make a date with yourself for yoga. Mark out that time, like you would a dentist appointment or a catch up with friends. That way if something else comes up you will put yoga first. If you need childcare or share a care, also have this arranged as a weekly event that becomes habitual so it's not an extra effort to sort out.

Reasons why healthy boundaries are transformative for Highly Sensitive People 💞

Often highly sensitive people can feel anxious about developing stronger, healthier, personal boundaries. We can fear losing friendships or upsetting people, facing up to conversations or irrevocably rocking. But these are some of the possible transformational benefits...

1. Listening to your 'no' keeps you safe
The key reasons we develop healthy boundaries in the first place is to keep us safe and happy. Some of us may find ourselves in mentally, emotionally, physically detrimental, or abusive situations with partners, family, work colleagues or friends. It may be what we are used to, but it doesn't mean that it's healthy for us or good for our wellbeing.

2. Deepens connections
Contrary to the fear of disconnection, healthy boundaries can actually deepen connections with loved ones. Communicating how we feel and what we need AND being open to receiving the same in return can bring about much needed honesty, insight, understanding and closeness in relationships and friendships.

3. Authentic, empowered and satisfied
When we start developing healthy boundaries, what is being asked of us is to be authentic and shine a light on our blind spots, be truthful about our whole experience. But when we can begin to acknowledge that anger (or other rising emotions we would prefer to ignore) and what it is pointing towards - i.e. the lack of fairness, the need for respect etc then recognise the boundary is being overstepped and articulating this, then we are moving towards authenticity and empowerment. Owning our truth is powerful; it can lead you to a deeply connected and satisfied life.

Connect to your creative freedom through the practice of art journalling. This workshop will include a range of mixed media through the use of acrylics, watercolours, paint pens, pastels and collage pieces. The day will include a ‘flight of imagination’ meditation and a sound bath.

You will discover a range of techniques and your own personal style through a series of creative prompts and mark making. There are no mistakes, only discovery, and if you don’t like something you can paint or collage over it!

This is the joy of layering techniques that we will practice. Discover your creative freedom and connect to the magic of your own artistic decisions and intuition, which often involves the element of surprise. We will also tune in to our word of the day and there will be prompts to include some written journalling.
